John Biera

Executive Director of Leadership at Phoenix Union High School District

John Biera joined PXU in 2014 as the Principal of Central High School. Prior to that, he served as Principal of Coronado High School and Arcadia High School in Scottsdale, AZ. Mr. Biera began his career in Texas as a Science teacher and coach and was later promoted to a school administrator. He has a wealth of experience in all levels of public education; elementary, middle, and high school, as well as experience in coaching several sports. Following a successful tenure at Central High, Mr. Biera came to the PXU District Office as a Leadership Coach, a role in which he was able to mentor and share his expertise with PXU Principals. In 2018-2019, he was selected as Executive Director for Teaching & Learning and in the spring of 2020 transitioned to Executive Director for Leadership. Mr. Biera is the proud father of two young adults, Alex and Jacob, and pursues a variety of interests, including auto mechanics and fishing. An advocate for all students, he is aware of the power of the young people and their willingness to seize opportunities to achieve greatness.
