Carles Montoliu has a diverse range of work experience. Carles started their career as a PhD student at the Instituto de Instrumentación para Imagen Molecular from September 2011 to July 2015. After completing their PhD, they worked as a Research Engineer at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) from September 2013 to July 2015. In 2015, they joined Photonicsens as an Algorithm Design Manager, where they currently hold this role.

Carles Montoliu began their education in 2005 at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), where they pursued a Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering. Carles completed this degree in 2011. During their time at UPV, Carles Montoliu also obtained an Erasmus Scholarship and studied at the University of Birmingham for the academic year 2009-2010.

In 2011, Carles Montoliu enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the Universitat Politècnica de València in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Carles completed this program in 2015, receiving their Ph.D. degree. Additionally, in 2014, Carles Montoliu was granted a Ph.D. Fellowship by the Fraunhofer-Institut für Integrierte Systeme und Bauelementetechnologie IISB, although the specific field of study for this fellowship is not specified.

Furthermore, Carles Montoliu obtained a certification from edX in June 2015 for Introduction to Graphene Science and Technology, which awards him an Honor Code Certificate. This certification signifies their proficiency in the subject matter.
