Matthew Billson

Matthew Billson currently serves as the Director of Policy & Market Strategy at Piclo since January 2023. Previously, Billson worked at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) from December 2017 to January 2023, where responsibilities included Deputy Director for Energy Innovation Strategy and co-lead of a £1bn+ Net Zero Innovation Portfolio, managing a £600m portfolio of innovation projects in energy. Additional roles included Head of Strategy for Energy Innovation and Programme Director for the Energy 2050 Institute at the University of Sheffield. Billson has chaired side events at high-profile UN climate negotiations and held various positions in energy strategy and communications across multiple government departments. Educational credentials include an MSc in Energy Systems from the University of Oxford and a BSc in Management with Japanese Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London.
