Shane Duggan has worked in the field of photonics since 2012. In 2011, they worked as a Leaving Certificate Supervisor, Scribe and Reader for the Department of Education & Skills in the Republic of Ireland. From 2012 to 2014, they were an Undergraduate Researcher and Teaching Assistant at University College Cork, Ireland (UCC). During this time, they researched and modelled heat and mass transfer in bubble column reactors for recycling waste heat. From 2014 to 2020, they worked as a Physics PhD Researcher at Tyndall National Institute, researching photonics for advanced telecommunications. In 2020, they began working as a PIC Design Engineer at Pilot Photonics, where they integrate different optical components onto single chips to improve performance and reduce cost and size.
Shane Duggan attended University College Cork from 2010 to 2014, where they earned a BSc in Astrophysics. Shane then returned to University College Cork from 2014 to 2019, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy in Physics. Prior to that, they attended Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh from 2004 to 2010 and obtained their Leaving Certificate.
