Matthew S. Stern

Matthew S. Stern is a seasoned legal professional specializing in energy regulation, public utilities law, and environmental law. Currently serving as Senior Counsel at Pine Gate Renewables since April 2023, Matthew has held significant roles in various firms, including Senior Project Counsel at Catalyze and Associate at Keegan Werlin LLP, where focus areas included energy regulatory practices. Matthew's earlier experience encompasses litigation and environmental law as an Associate at Gravel & Shea PC and research on renewable energy policy as a Research Associate at the Institute for Energy and the Environment. Matthew's early career included a legal internship at VELCO and a law clerk position at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Matthew holds a Doctor of Law (JD) and a Master of Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law and Graduate School, complemented by a Bachelor of Arts in Energy Business and Finance from Penn State University.
