David Liu is a highly experienced engineering leader with a strong focus on machine learning and computer vision. As Senior Director of Engineering for the ML Platform at Pinterest since January 2014, David has been instrumental in founding and scaling the platform, which serves over 300 engineers across various teams. Prior roles at Pinterest include Engineering Manager for Related Pins, where David significantly enhanced engagement through advanced machine learning techniques, and Staff Software Engineer, contributing to key projects such as Visual Discovery. David's early career includes foundational engineering positions at companies like VisualGraph, The D. E. Shaw Group, and Google, along with significant research experience at NASA Ames Research Center and MIT CSAIL. David holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University, graduating with distinction.
