Sam Croom, MPA has extensive work experience in financial management and administration, primarily in county government. They started their career in 2005 at the North Carolina Department of Revenue as a Revenue Officer and Revenue Field Auditor. From 2013 to 2017, they worked as a Tax Administrator for Jones County. They then joined the County of Wayne as a Collections Division Manager in 2017. In 2018, they became the Tax Administrator at Pitt County Government, where they served until 2022. During their time at Pitt County Government, they also served as an Assistant County Manager - Revenue and Growth/Tax Administrator. Currently, Sam Croom holds the position of Deputy County Manager - Chief Financial Officer at the County of Pitt, where they are responsible for financial management and administration, including budget preparation, debt management, and revenue and expenditure coordination.
Sam Croom, MPA, has a diverse and extensive educational background. In 1991, they began their undergraduate studies at East Carolina University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science and Government. Sam successfully completed their BA in 1994.
Subsequently, in 2011, Sam enrolled in North Carolina Wesleyan University to further enhance their knowledge in the field of Accounting. Sam pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, specializing in Accounting, and successfully completed their degree in 2012.
Motivated to further expand their expertise, Sam embarked on a Master of Science (MS) degree program in Accounting at Liberty University in 2013. Sam dedicated a year to this program and completed it in 2014.
Most recently, Sam pursued a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree at the prestigious University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From 2018 to 2020, they engaged in this program, furthering their understanding of public administration.
