Renee Kuriyan Wittemyer

Vice President, Program Strategy at Pivotal Ventures

Renee Kuriyan Wittemyer has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Renee currently serves as the Director of Program Strategy and Investment at Pivotal Ventures, a position they have held since January 2020. Before that, they were the Senior Lead, Tech Innovation, Program Strategy at the same company from May 2017 to January 2020.

Prior to their role at Pivotal Ventures, Renee worked at Intel Corporation for several years. Renee'sroles at Intel included Director of Government Strategy, Director of Research, Policy, and Innovation in the Global Diversity & Inclusion Organization, and Director of Strategic Alliances and Social Innovation in the Corporate Responsibility Office. In these positions, they were responsible for driving diversity and inclusion strategies, managing relationships with strategic alliances, and developing social innovation strategies. Renee also conducted social science research on how people interact with technology and worked with governments, businesses, and consumers in various regions.

Renee's earlier work experience includes being a Graduate Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, where they focused on technology and infrastructure for emerging regions. Renee also worked as part of the Technology for Emerging Markets team at Microsoft Research India, conducting ethnographic research on ICT and economic development projects in India. Additionally, they worked as a Development Manager at Room to Read and as a fellow at the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship.

With their experience in program strategy, innovation, diversity and inclusion, and research, Renee has a strong background in driving social impact and advancing the use of technology for positive change.

Renee Kuriyan Wittemyer began their education at The Pingry School, from which they graduated in 1993. Renee then attended Middlebury College from 1993 to 1997, earning a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Environmental Studies. Following this, they pursued a Masters in Public Affairs and a Certificate in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy at Princeton University, completing their studies from 1999 to 2001. Finally, they obtained a PhD in Development Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, which they accomplished between 2003 and 2008.
