Lyndon Charles, Ph.D.

Vice President, Program Management & Strategy at Elektrofi

Lyndon Charles, Ph.D. has a wealth of work experience. From 2016 to the present, they have been employed at Elektrofi, where they have held the roles of Associate Director, Senior Manager, Senior Scientist II, and Senior Scientist. From 2013 to 2016, they were a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where they worked in a multidisciplinary team to develop a tunable composite hydrogel for cartilage and bone regeneration therapies (spinal fusion). Lyndon also filed a patent based on the technology developed. From 2008 to 2013, they were a Visiting Research Scientist at EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne), where they were awarded a National Science Foundation International Research and Education in Engineering grant. During this time, they designed and performed experiments which led to improved calcium phosphate nanoparticle dispersion and reduced agglomeration in aqueous solutions through the use of chemical modification and polymer conjugation. Lyndon also used zeta potential, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry, and transmission electron microscopy to confirm successful conjugation of polymer to nanoparticles. From 2006 to 2008, they were a Research Assistant at the University of Connecticut, where they developed techniques for the preparation of reinforced polymer composites leading to two peer-reviewed journal publications. Lyndon also supervised undergraduate research projects, providing guidance in research design, data collection and analysis, and presentation preparation. Prior to this, they were an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Connecticut, where they prepared porous hydroxyapatite discs using salt leaching and high temperature sintering, and characterized samples using mercury intrusion, compression testing, and scanning electron microscopy.

Lyndon Charles, Ph.D. has a comprehensive educational background. Lyndon earned a Bachelor's Degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Connecticut between 2001 and 2006. Lyndon then went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Science from The University of Connecticut Health Center between 2008 and 2013. In addition, they have obtained several certifications, including Technology Commercialization, Part 1: Setting up your Idea Filtering System from Coursera in December 2014, Advanced Competitive Strategy from Coursera in September 2014, Foundations of Business Strategy from Coursera in August 2014, Financial Analysis and Decision Making from edX in June 2014, and Competitive Strategy from Coursera in May 2014.
