Theo Vermaak has a diverse work experience in the field of accounting and auditing. Theo currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of PKF International since May 2020. Prior to this, they were the Chairman of PKF South Africa from June 2018 to December 2020.
In addition, Theo has held prominent positions in various organizations. From January 2015 to December 2017, they served as the Chairman of the Forum of Firms (FOF), an independent association of international networks of firms performing transnational audits. Theo played a crucial role in promoting consistent and high-quality standards of financial reporting and auditing practices worldwide.
Before joining PKF International, Theo worked as the Regional Director Africa at PKF International from October 2013 to 2017. During their time there, they oversaw the administration of PKF network and its member firms across 150 countries.
Prior to joining PKF International, Theo represented PKF International and the mid-tier audit sector as a Member of the Transnational Auditors Committee of the Forum of Firms and IFAC (International Federation of Accountants) from 2006 to 2014. Theo actively contributed to raising the global standards of auditing and financial reporting.
Theo has also gained valuable experience from their time in other organizations. Theo served as the Director of Accounting & Auditing at PKF O'Connor Davies in New York from 2009 to 2013. In this role, they were responsible for ensuring compliance with professional promulgations and providing training programs on ethics and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Furthermore, Theo founded and served as Managing Director of Converg Financial Training (Pty) Ltd from 2003 to 2009, where they specialized in training and consulting for the accounting profession and provided financial training and coaching for businesses.
Earlier in their career, Theo worked as the Director: National Training at PKF Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, South Africa, from 2000 to 2003. Prior to this, they held positions as a Financial Manager at BoE Bank Limited and as a Consultant at PwC, where they provided support and training on audit software and methodology.
Throughout their career, Theo Vermaak has built a strong foundation of experience in accounting, auditing, and financial training, with a particular focus on promoting international standards and best practices.
Theo Vermaak attended the University of the Free State from 1991 to 1994, where they pursued a Bachelor of Commerce Honors degree in Accounting and Auditing. Following this, they enrolled at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants to pursue a CA(SA) qualification in Accounting, Auditing, Tax, and Finance.
