Juan Fernandez is an experienced optical systems engineer currently serving as a Staff Optical Systems Engineer at Planet since April 2019. Prior to this role, Juan was with Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) from March 2008 to February 2019, where responsibilities included serving as the technical lead for various optical payload developments and leading design and testing teams for notable projects such as EarthCare and TropOMI. Juan holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microsatellite Instrumentation for Earth Observation and a Master of Science (MSc) in Mobile and Satellite Communications from the University of Surrey, along with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
