Martha Shickle is an experienced executive leader specializing in community development and regional planning. Since December 2015, Martha has served as Executive Director at PlanRVA. Previously, Martha was Executive Director at the NSVRC from May 2011 to December 2015, where oversight included technical assistance and project management for localities. Earlier roles include Director of Development Services at the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission, managing affordable housing and community development programs, and Neighborhood Revitalization Director for the City of Winchester, where Martha oversaw a significant budget and collaborated with local partners on affordable housing initiatives. Martha holds a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from William & Mary.

PlanRVA is the regional planning district commission for RVA. Our Mission: “Partnering to enable outcomes that matter for our Region” Our purpose is "...to encourage and facilitate local government cooperation and state-local cooperation in addressing, on a regional basis, problems of greater than local significance. [This] cooperation facilitates the recognition and analysis of regional opportunities and takes into consideration regional influences in planning and implementing public policies and services. Our priorities are focused on issues that serve the region including: Transportation, Emergency Management, Environment, and Community Development.
