Rob Watling

Rob Watling has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering and game development. Rob currently holds the position of Lead Game Engineer at Quell since March 2023. Prior to this role, they worked as a Senior Game Engineer at Quell from January 2022 to March 2023.

Before joining Quell, Rob served as a Senior Software Engineer at Electric Gamebox from March 2020 to December 2021. Rob also gained valuable experience at Mrs Wordsmith as a Senior Software Engineer from July 2019 to February 2020, where they took the lead role in planning and building features for onboarding and in-app purchases. Rob developed Apple Sign On functionality for Epic Word Adventure and managed the game's architecture.

Rob's earlier experiences include working as a Unity Developer at VU.CITY from January 2018 to July 2019, where they designed and developed an asset pipeline and a saving and loading system. Rob also planned the architecture and developed the foundations of VU. Additionally, they served as a 3D Programmer at Solera, Inc. from June 2016 to September 2017, where they took a lead role in planning, architecting, and building the Digital Garage platform.

Prior to that, Rob worked as a 3D Developer at SmartFocus from October 2015 to April 2016, where they produced prototypes for visualizing data in 3D space and worked on embedding Unity within iOS and Android applications. Rob began their career as a Graduate Software Engineer at CommonTime Ltd from June 2015 to September 2015.

Rob's earliest experience dates back to their time as a Programmer at Table Flip Games from August 2014 to August 2015, where they primarily focused on core functionality and gameplay programming.

Rob pursued their education at the University of Derby from September 2011 to June 2015, where they studied as a student. Rob also served as a Laboratory Demonstrator from September 2013 to April 2015. Additionally, they gained valuable experience as an Intern Programmer at Bevel Studios from June 2013 to April 2014.

Rob Watling attended Brentwood Country High from 2004 to 2009, but did not obtain a degree or specify a field of study at that time. Rob then pursued an National IT Diploma at Chelmsford College from 2009 to 2011, with a focus on Information Technology. Finally, they graduated from the University of Derby in 2015 with a degree in Computer games programming, but did not specify a field of study within the degree.
