Paul Bretz

Paul Bretz is an experienced educational leader and rugby official, currently serving as the High School Principal at Newark Unified School District since June 2018. With a strong background in both education and sports, Paul has held various positions including Vice Principal at Tracy Unified School District and Antioch Unified School District, where responsibilities included supervising special education and site safety planning. As the Founder of Enlightening Learners Academic Coaching and Tutoring Services, Paul aids students aged 6-18 in developing essential reading and organizational skills. Additionally, Paul is the President of the Northern California Rugby Referees Society and has served as the West Zone Referee Manager for USA Rugby, focusing on the development of referees in the western United States. Paul co-founded the Pleasanton Cavaliers Rugby Club and has officiated rugby matches nationally as a National Panel Referee. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Paul holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from California State University - East Bay and a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from San Jose State University.

Founded in 2009, our club has grown each year as youth players and their familes come to realize the benefits that the sport of rugby provides.
