Mahru An has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. They started as an undergraduate researcher at the University of Washington - School of Medicine in 1997. They then worked as a graduate student at The Salk Institute from 2001 to 2007. Following that, Mahru was a postdoctoral fellow at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging from 2008 to 2015, where they focused on studying Huntington's Disease. In 2015, they joined UNITY Biotechnology as a scientist and later became a senior scientist. At UNITY Biotechnology, they played a central role in driving programs in in vitro discovery and development of senolytic drugs to relieve chronic senescent cell burden in aging and diseased tissues. Most recently, in 2021, Mahru An joined Pliant Therapeutics as a senior scientist and later became a principal scientist. No specific end dates are provided for their roles at Pliant Therapeutics.
Mahru An received a BS in Cell Molecular Biology from the University of Washington in 2000. Following this, they pursued a PhD in Biology - Neuroscience at UC San Diego from 2000 to 2007.
