Heather van Epps

Heather Van Epps (Brough) is an accomplished academic editor and science writer with extensive experience in medical publishing. Currently serving as Executive Editor for PLOS Medicine since September 2023, Heather previously held the position of Editor in Chief at The Lancet Rheumatology from January 2019 to August 2023. Additional roles include Deputy Editor at The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology and The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, as well as Editor at the Journal of Experimental Medicine. Heather’s early career included a postdoctoral fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and freelance science writing for Cure Magazine. Academic credentials include a PhD in Immunology from UMass Chan Medical School and a BA in Biology from Middlebury College.
