Brian M.J. Noland has varied work experience in the field of hydrogen systems engineering. Brian started their career as a DOE Office of Science SULI Intern at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where they developed a MATLAB GUI and designed prototypes for hydrophone sensitivity testing. Brian then worked as a Tech Student Intern at the same laboratory.
Brian went on to work at the University of California, Davis, where they held multiple roles. Brian was a Teaching Assistant from September 2012 to March 2017. As a Lab Manager from June 2018 to June 2019, they managed machine tools, chemical inventory, and personnel safety training. Additionally, as a Hydrogen Fuel Research Engineer from August 2016 to June 2019, they focused on slurry-based hydrogen generation and conducted various experiments.
Brian also worked as a Hydrogen Systems Engineering Intern at Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine from June 2019 to September 2019. During this time, they executed and drafted reports on flammable hazard analysis, managed vendor relations, and developed bills of materials and cost specifications.
Most recently, Brian joined Plug Power in May 2020 as a Hydrogen Systems Engineer.
Brian M.J. Noland completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Mechatronics at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo from 2006 to 2011. Following that, they pursued a doctoral degree at the University of California, Davis, specializing in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems, starting in 2011 and successfully obtaining their PhD in September 2019. In addition to their academic achievements, Brian also obtained an Engineer In Training certification from NCEES in July 2010.
