Irene Mahoney

R&d Engineer, Electrolyzers at Plug Power

Irene Mahoney has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Irene began their career at Whatcom Community College as a Chemistry Lab Assistant from October 2016 to July 2018. Irene then joined Plug Power in June 2020 as an Engineer Intern for two months.

In August 2019, Irene Mahoney joined Washington State University, where they held multiple roles. Irene started as a CUB Building Manager and a TMP Mentor in August 2019 and continued in these positions until June 2021. As a TMP Mentor, they provided guidance and support to underrepresented STEM and pre-health students, mentoring 36 students over two years. Irene also served as an Undergraduate Biology Teaching Assistant from August 2019 to December 2019.

Returning to Plug Power in June 2021, Irene Mahoney took on the role of Chemical Engineer. In this position, they focused on optimizing PEMFC membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) through performance analyses and electrochemical characterization techniques. Irene conducted DOE experiments to analyze fuel cell component contribution to performance and evaluated the effects of various parameters. Irene held this role until the present.

Currently, Irene Mahoney is working at Plug Power as a Stack Engineer, Electrolyzers. Additional details regarding the duration and responsibilities of this role are not provided.

Irene Mahoney attended Whatcom Community College from 2016 to 2018, where they studied Chemical Engineering. Irene then transferred to Washington State University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from 2018 to 2021.

In addition to their education, Irene Mahoney obtained a certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED from the American Red Cross in September 2019.
