Simon Buckingham Shum is a distinguished academic with extensive experience in learning informatics and educational technology. Currently serving as a Professor of Learning Informatics and Director of the Connected Intelligence Centre at the University of Technology Sydney, Simon leads research and development focused on human-centered Learning Analytics and AI in education. Previous roles include Visiting Fellow at the University of Bristol, where Simon explored the integration of Learning Power insights into online learning platforms, and a lengthy tenure at The Open University in various capacities, including Professor of Learning Informatics and Director of the SocialLearn Project. Simon has also contributed to educational governance as Chair of Governors at Bushfield School and has a strong academic background with a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of York, along with degrees in Ergonomics and Psychology.
