Matt Mason is a distinguished poet, teacher, and performer who currently serves as the Nebraska State Poet. With extensive experience in poetry programming for the State Department across countries such as Nepal, Romania, Botswana, and Belarus, Mason has participated in six National Poetry Slam teams. As the Executive Director of the Nebraska Writers Collective from October 2009 to June 2022, Mason focused on fostering personal empowerment and community-building through creative writing and performance poetry. Mason has also engaged in audio production for major media outlets and educational institutions, including positions as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Metropolitan Community College, and Creighton University. Mason holds an MA in English with a focus on Creative Writing from the University of California, Davis, and a BA in English from Santa Clara University.
