Grant Ballard

Chief Science Officer at Point Blue Conservation Science

Grant Ballard has a diverse work experience in the field of conservation science. Grant started their career as a Field Supervisor at PRBO from 1992 to 1997. Grant then worked at PRBO Conservation Science as a Senior Biologist, Data Manager, and Analyst from 1994 to 2006. Later, they co-founded Oikonos in 2002. In 2007, they joined Point Blue Conservation Science as the Informatics Division Director and Antarctic Program Leader, where they created and led a new science division and managed ecological observation data. Grant also served as the Climate Change and Informatics Director and San Francisco Bay Acting Director at Point Blue from 2011 to 2012. Currently, Grant holds a position as an Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon State University, starting from 2016.

Grant Ballard earned their BA in English from Cornell University, where they studied from 1985 to 1989. Later on, they pursued a PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Behaviour at The University of Auckland from 2006 to 2009.
