David Swanson OMA has extensive work experience in the field of chemistry. David began their career in 1991 as an Officer Cadet in the Australian Army. From there, they worked as a Laboratory Analyst at Queensland Cement Ltd from 1994 to 1998, followed by a role as a Laboratory Analyst at ALS Limited from 1998 to 1999. David then joined Shell Oil Company, where they worked as a Fuels and Sundries Chemist from 1999 to 2000, a Grease Chemist from 2000 to 2002, and a Lubricants Chemist from 2002 to 2003. David then joined Bayer CropScience as a Quality Control Chemist from 2003 to 2007, focusing on the quality assurance and testing of agrochemicals. Following this, David worked at Hastings Deering as a Supervising Quality Chemist from 2007 to 2015. In 2015, they joined Polaris Laboratories® as a Senior Process Development Chemist until 2016. From 2016 to 2017, they served as the Manager of Science, Calibration, and Maintenance, and currently holds the position of Director of Technical Services at Polaris Laboratories®.

David Swanson OMA has a diverse educational background. In 1985, they attended Pine Rivers State High School, where they completed their high school education. From 1991 to 1993, David pursued higher education at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) and obtained an Associate Diploma in Applied Science with a specialization in Chemistry. In 2008 and 2009, they attended the Australian Institute of Management, where they completed a Certificate IV in Business with a focus on Frontline Management.
