Jim van der Waal

Jim van der Waal has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. In 2008, they worked as an Administrative Assistant at Fortis Bank (Nederland) N.V. Jim then worked as a General Employee at Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin for a brief period. In 2009, they took on the role of General Employee at Bomenwacht Nederland and later became a Project Assistant at DataQuint.

In 2014, Jim joined PwC Nederland as a Graduate Intern, where they focused on researching the use of big data in the transport sector. Jim also wrote their Master Thesis on this topic.

From 2014 to 2016, Jim worked at bol.com in various roles. Jim started as an Information Analyst, where they worked on developing IT innovations. Jim then transitioned to the role of Scrum Master, where they facilitated the team's work and implemented scrum principles. Subsequently, they served as an IT Projectmanager, leading initiatives involving multiple scrum teams. Finally, they took on the role of Product Owner, managing a team responsible for creating generic components for tooling innovation.

Jim joined Onefootball in 2019 as a Product Manager. Jim worked with both the web team, responsible for the consumer-facing web product, and the ultimate platform for football fans. In 2020, they were promoted to Senior Product Manager and continued innovating on the platform until early 2021.

Later in 2021, Jim joined bol.com again, this time as an Engineering Manager. Jim led the transformation of the OPS/SRE team into a product-lead organization and managed a team of 11 members. Jim focused on creating a diverse team and implementing a new way of working.

Most recently, in 2022, Jim joined Polarsteps as the Head of Product. Jim'sresponsibilities include building an incredible Product Team and changing the way people travel using the travel app. With over 1 million monthly active users and high app ratings, Jim is leading the development and enhancement of the app.

Throughout their career, Jim demonstrated their ability to take on different roles and lead teams in various industries, showing adaptability and a strong technical background.

Jim van der Waal completed their Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Business Administration from the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University from 2009 to 2013. Following that, they pursued an MSc in Business Information Management at the same institution, completing it from 2013 to 2014. In addition to their formal education, Jim has obtained several certifications, including Product Leadership from Reforge in April 2023 and Agile Project Management from APMG International in November 2016. Jim has also undertaken training in areas such as Inzicht in Invloed™, Oracle Database 11g: SQL fundamentals, Tackling the Challenges of Big Data, and UX Foundation, though the specific details of when and where they obtained these certifications are not provided.
