Kokum Weeratunga

Kokum Weeratunga has over 14 years of work experience in the fields of data science, game play research, and sports technology. In 2022, they began their current role as Head of Data Science & Gameplay Research at Polemos. In 2021, they were Senior Data Science Manager at Betfair Australia, where they managed the data science team, was responsible for Betfair's data science product road-map, and managed all stakeholder relationships with other business functions. In 2019, they were Lead Data Scientist at EDGE10 Group, where they lead the global data science team and evaluated and enhanced the analytical capabilities of the EDGE10 product. In 2018, they were a Data Scientist at Tennis Australia and Victoria University's Institute for Health and Sport, where they focused on computer vision and machine learning. From 2008 to 2018, they worked at the National Sports Institute Malaysia, where they held several roles including Head of Technology and Innovation, Sports Technology Research Engineer, Performance Analyst, Applications Engineer, and Sports Technology Officer.

Kokum Weeratunga received their Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from Monash University Malaysia between 2013 and 2017. Kokum also obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics from Monash University Malaysia between 2004 and 2007. Prior to this, they attended S.Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia between 1997 and 2003. Additionally, they hold a Certified LabVIEW Developer certification from National Instruments.
