Phelim Kine

Phelim Kine is a seasoned journalist and advocate with extensive experience focused on human rights and environmental issues in Asia. Currently serving as the D.C.-based China correspondent for POLITICO since July 2021, Phelim previously held the position of Senior Director for Asia at Mighty Earth, where leadership encompassed campaigns aimed at environmental protection and climate change mitigation across multiple countries. Experience also includes roles as Deputy Program Director and Director of Research & Investigations at Physicians for Human Rights, and an adjunct instructor at The Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College, where Phelim taught courses on transitional justice and economic inequality. Additionally, Phelim has a long tenure at Human Rights Watch, initially as a China researcher and advancing to Deputy Director of the Asia Division. Earlier career highlights include positions as Jakarta Bureau Chief and China Correspondent for Dow Jones Newswires, Managing Editor at the Phnom Penh Post, and Features Writer at China News. Phelim holds a degree from Carleton University.
