Sam Molyneux

Co-CEO & Co-Founder at Poppy

Sam Molyneux has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. In 2006, they worked as a Cancer Genomics Researcher at the University Health Network, focusing on developing a biotechnology platform for cancer gene discovery. In 2010, Sam co-founded Meta, a project under the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where they served as CEO and set the overall vision and strategy for the company. They managed challenging situations and led a team through an acquisition. From 2017 to 2019, Sam worked at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative as the GM of Meta, providing leadership to a large technology team. They collaborated with top minds in Silicon Valley towards audacious goals in medicine. During this time, Sam also spoke at the United Nations' AI for Good Global Summit and was recognized by Canada's Top 40 Under 40. In 2019, they co-founded Poppy, a startup company based in San Francisco and Toronto, where they served as Co-CEO & Co-Founder. In 2020, Sam worked as an Entrepreneur in Residence at SRI International and served as an Advisor at BayEcotarium: Climate/Ocean Conservation Living Museum. They also mentored startups in the AI + Healthcare Streams at the Creative Destruction Lab. Throughout their career, Sam demonstrated leadership, innovation, and a passion for advancing science and technology.

Sam Molyneux completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc), Honours degree in Biochemistry from Queen's University from 2000 to 2005. Subsequently, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto from 2006 to 2013. However, it is worth noting that they still need to defend their PhD thesis.
