Hailegnaw Eshete has extensive experience in public health and communication, currently serving as Country Director at Population Media Center since March 2019, with prior leadership as Country Director at Population Media Center Ethiopia from April 2019 to March 2021. A seasoned health professional, Hailegnaw directed the Ethiopian Population Based HIV Impact Assessment (EPHIA) project at ICAP-Columbia University from October 2016 to September 2018, funded by the CDC. As Executive Director of the Ethiopian Public Health Association from 2010 to 2015, significant achievements included increasing the organization's visibility and hosting the 13th World Congress on Public Health. Earlier roles included technical advisory positions for Federal HAPCO and various UN agencies and international organizations, as well as department head for the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department at EHNRI from 1989 to 1995. An accomplished academic, Hailegnaw holds a PhD in Health Care Management from ACU and multiple degrees in Epidemiology and Public Health from prestigious institutions.
