Dr. Susan Mpanga Mukasa is currently the PSI Regional Director for East Africa supporting governance and strategic implementation of health programs in nine countries, including Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Somalia, South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. She has over 15 years of work experience overseeing the implementation of health programs in Africa. Susan has directly implemented social marketing and social franchising programs in Uganda and Tanzania covering all relevant health areas including family planning/reproductive health, HIV/TB prevention and care, as well as malaria and child survival. She has governance experience currently working as a board member on four governance boards for the Program for Accessible Health Education (PACE) in Uganda, Society for Family Health (SFH) in South Africa, PSI Malawi and PS Kenya, a local organization working closely with PSI in Kenya.
Susan has experience working with Governments, major donors and multi-laterals, including DFID, USAID, American Center for Disease Control (CDC), Global Fund, KfW, Irish AID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA. She also has experience working with private pharmaceutical companies including Merck and Pfizer, and has most recently gained experience working with philanthropists investing in health for development. Critical to Susan’s success is the close collaboration and management of people from diverse cultures and her commitment to maintaining PSI’s operational standards.
Dr. Mukasa holds a medical degree (MBchB) from Makerere University Medical School and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is also a Chartered Accountant from Glasgow University.
