Richard van der Eijk has gained extensive work experience in various roles throughout their career. Starting in 1995, they worked as a Marketing Coordinator at the European Research Center, where they recruited new partners for conferences and managed relationships with sponsors. In 1997, they joined Winkelman & van Hessen as a Junior Consultant and progressed to Senior Advisor, working on projects for well-known brands such as KPN, KLM, OPTA, and the EURO2000 Foundation.

After their time at Winkelman & van Hessen, Richard joined Unilever Europe in 2001, where they held several roles over the years. As Communications Director, they acted as a partner to the President of Unilever Europe, overseeing both internal and external communication programs. Richard also coordinated communication activities across 34 countries. Richard then took on the role of Communications Director Benelux after the merger of Unilever's Belgian and Dutch organizations, managing a team based in Brussels and Rotterdam. Prior to this, they were responsible for the Reputation Management of Unilever's Dutch division, setting up the Communication Department and leading a team of over 15 professionals.

Most recently, Richard van der Eijk joined the Port of Rotterdam in 2014 as Director of Communications & External Affairs. In this position, they are responsible for managing communication strategies and relationships with external stakeholders.

Additionally, in 2009, they attended a Leadership Course at the Center for Creative Leadership. These educational experiences have helped Richard acquire a diverse range of skills and knowledge throughout their professional journey.
