Phil Beard

Phil Beard has over 30 years of broadcast television experience. Phil started their career as a News/Sports Cameraman at KATU-TV in 1978 and won Emmy, Peabody, and AP awards for their work as an ENG photographer and editor. In 1997, Phil Beard started their own production company, Phil Beard Productions, where they worked as a Cameraman-Director-Jib Operator and won an Emmy award for their freelance camerawork. Phil also directed various sporting events, including football, track & field, hockey, and basketball, for broadcast and internet feeds.

In 2000, Phil began working for the Portland Trail Blazers @ the Rose Quarter as a Director, where they directed the in-house scoreboard show for Trail Blazer home games. Phil also worked as a camera operator for the show from 1999 to 2010. At the same time, Phil worked as a freelance camera operator, ENG, hard cam, or handheld, for sports and corporate events. Phil was also a Stanton Triangle jib operator with a Dutch head for corporate, concert, and sports productions.

Since 2008, Phil has been the Video Director for the Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club. Additionally, they have been the Director for Comcast Sports Net NW since 2008, where they direct and TDs a weekly studio talk show and occasional special events. Starting in 2012, Phil worked as a Core Cameraman for CBS Sports Network, primarily for the Mountain West Conference football package. Phil'sresponsibilities included setting up cameras, building the booth, and assisting the tech manager on set days. Phil'srole with CBS Sports Network concluded in 2018.

Phil Beard attended Lane Community College from 1975 to 1976, where they studied Broadcasting. Prior to that, from 1974 to 1975, they were enrolled at the University of Oregon, focusing on Broadcasting and Speech. Additionally, Phil Beard holds a certification from the Sports Production Safety Group (SPSG), although the specific month and year of attainment are not specified.
