Al serves as a senior business advisor to John Portman and the various Portman Companies. He works closely with the senior executives of Portman Holdings to consult on potential and ongoing projects, debt and equity financing, and asset management.
Al has a long and distinguished legal career focusing on commercial real estate spanning more than thirty years. He worked with the law firm of Hansell & Post from 1969 to 1989, and with its successor, Jones Day, from 1989 until 2000. During his tenure with Hansell & Post and Jones Day, Al served for many years as primary outside legal counsel for the various Portman Companies.
Al received his undergraduate M.A. degree from Guilford College in 1966, and his J.D. degree from the Duke University School of Law in 1969.
