Julian Grünewald, M.D., is a physician-scientist, Assistant Professor of Gene Editing, and Emmy Noether group leader at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany. He studied medicine in Freiburg, Salamanca, and Paris and received his M.D. from the University of Freiburg in Germany in 2015. After four years of training as a resident in internal medicine at the Medical Center of the University of Freiburg, he pursued his postdoctoral fellowship at Dr. J. Keith Joung’s laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
In 2022, Julian started his research group at the Department of Cardiology of the TUM University Hospital. The Grünewald Laboratory develops CRISPR technologies for organoid systems and applications in gene and cell therapy, with a focus on cardiovascular diseases.
