Joey Helton has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Joey started their career as a Director of Development at The Salvation Army in 2005 and subsequently held positions such as Regional Resource Development Director and Divisional Resource Development Director at the same organization. In 2012, they transitioned to AID Atlanta, where they served as the Chief Development Officer until 2014. Joey then joined Georgia State University as a Senior Director of Development from 2014 to 2017. In 2017, Joey became the Chief Operating Officer at Positive Impact Health Centers. Additionally, they have also worked as an Instructor/Professor at Clayton State University since 2013.

Joey Helton's education history begins in 1998 when they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services from East Tennessee State University. Following this, in 2003 they pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focus on Health/Health Care Administration/Management at the same institution, which they completed in 2005. During their time at East Tennessee State University, they also obtained additional certifications in Gerontology and Long-term Care Administration in May 2005. Moving forward, from 2014 to 2017, Joey Helton attended Georgia State University - J. Mack Robinson College of Business, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Business Administration, Management, and Operations.
