That same year, they became a Resident Assistant at John Brown University, where they led a hall of 28 students and developed a vibrant social and educational environment.
In 2014, Zachary served as a Software Engineering Intern at Lexmark International, Inc., where they were part of an Agile SCRUM team focused on developing tools for quality assurance testing of printers. Zachary won a 1st Place Award in the Lexmark Emerging Leaders Symposium for their work on a Power Usage Monitoring Application and received a Manager's Service Award.
Zachary continued their education at John Brown University and took on the role of Teaching Assistant from 2014 to 2016. During this time, they received a grant from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education to study best practices for using low-cost micro-controllers in affordable Maximum Power Point Trackers (MPPTs). Zachary also developed programs in C to implement MPPT algorithms and designed and built a low-cost Cuk converter-based MPPT for testing purposes.
In 2015, Zachary worked as an NSF REU Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Vermont. Zachary contributed to a research project focused on designing and verifying a mechanical simulation of the power grid for teaching and research purposes. Zachary conducted experiments to test grid frequency and phase response, cascading failures, and generation control parameters. This experience provided valuable insights into power grid systems.
In 2016, Zachary became a Resnick Sustainability Institute Fellow at Caltech, where they worked on researching novel approaches in algorithms, software, and systems to lower the capital and operational cost of EV charging infrastructure. Zachary also received an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship during their time at Caltech.
In 2018, they interned at Google as a Software Engineering Intern, gaining valuable experience at a tech giant. Most recently, Zachary has been working at PowerFlex as a Software Engineer and is currently serving as Sr. Principal Systems Architect - R&D.
