Jim Klingshirn

Cofounder, Director of Research at PowWow Energy

Jim Klingshirn has extensive experience in the field of computer vision. Jim has been self-employed as a Computer Vision Specialist since 2011. In 2014, they became Cofounder and Director of Research at PowWow Energy, Inc., where they worked on aerial image understanding, machine learning, and energy and water conservation for agriculture. That same year, they also became a Contract Engineer for Advanced Development at FLIR Systems. Additionally, they provided mentorship to the first place 2014 Capstone Computer Science team at PowWow Energy, working on the Eye in the Sky project and aerial imagery for leak detection in agricultural irrigation systems. From 2012 to 2014, they were a Contract Engineer for Machine Vision at Toyon Research, where they worked on action detection and recognition in live videos for the DARPA Mind's Eye program, onboard UAV video capture and processing, and video capture, compression, and streaming on embedded cpu's. From 2009 to 2012, they were a Characterization and Correction of Macular Distortions and Contract Engineer at UC Santa Barbara, where they developed software and optical devices for correcting distorted vision caused by Macular Degeneration and worked on real time image and video processing, computer vision, and deep learning. From 2001 to 2009, they were the Director of Software Engineering at Calient Networks. From 1995 to 2001, they were a Senior Software Engineer at MetaCreations. Finally, from 1984 to 1995, they were a Microprocessor Design Engineer at Motorola.

Jim Klingshirn attended Rochester Institute of Technology from 1978 to 1982, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Photographic Science.
