Ruth Harjo has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Ruth started their career in 2000 as a Tribal Gaming Commissioner, where they focused on regulatory compliance and financial matters for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Gaming Commission. From 2003 to 2006, they transitioned to a career development role in human resources, where they administered and implemented programs to enhance employee skills and career growth. Following this, Ruth worked as a Database Marketing Manager, overseeing various marketing functions and utilizing data analysis for strategic decision-making. From 2007 to 2014, they served as a Planning & Analysis Manager, responsible for producing performance reports and financial analysis. From 2014 to the present, Ruth has been the Director of Human Resources at Prairie Band Casino & Resort, collaborating with executive leadership to implement HR initiatives and creating positive employee experiences. Additionally, they have served as an Executive Board Member for the Haskell Foundation since 2013, supporting intertribal education and cultural programs at Haskell Indian Nations University. Ruth holds an MBA and is certified as both SHRM-SCP and SPHR.
Ruth Harjo has a diverse education history. Ruth earned their Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities from Haskell Indian Junior College from 1988 to 1990. Ruth then pursued their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections from Washburn University between 1994 and 1997. Later, Ruth completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree specializing in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services from Baker University from 2004 to 2006.
In addition to their academic achievements, Ruth Harjo has also obtained several certifications. In 2016, they completed the Tribal Human Resources Professional certification from the National Native American Human Resources Association (NNAHRA), and the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) Certification from the HR Certification Institute (HRCI). Ruth further enhanced their expertise by obtaining the SHRM-SCP certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in July 2018. Ruth also holds the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation from SHRM, which they obtained in July 2018 as well.
