Keith Jemison

Keith Jemison is currently the AVP for Public Safety & Chief of Police at Prairie View A&M University. Prior to their current position, Keith served as the Assistant Chief of Police-Administration & Internal Affairs for the City of Missouri City, Texas from March 2011 to August 2017.

In their role as Assistant Chief of Police, Keith was responsible for assisting the Chief of Police in the management and executive oversight of the daily operations of the police department, which consisted of 148 employees, including 105 sworn staff. This involved reviewing and approving personnel performance; approving travel reports; reviewing promotional processes and making recommendations; meeting with department personnel; reviewing and approving minor professional standard investigations; review and forwarding to the Chief major professional standard investigations along with analysis and recommendations.

Keith also supported the Chief by handling their responsibilities in their absence; attending City Council meetings in their absence; and providing input regarding the setting and application of department goals and objectives and assisting with the developing and implementation of the department strategic plan.

In addition, Keith supervised division Captains by preparing annual performance evaluation; review and approve overtime and time off; approve credit card reports; provide executive oversight for the administration of the division budget totaling in excess of 3 million dollars; attend staff meetings; and recommend and implement policy and procedure changes.

Finally, Keith prepared the departmental budget (16 million dollars) by meeting with commanders; attending meetings on budget development; directing subordinates in the preparation of the budget; soliciting recommendation of needs from subordinates; making recommendations on final budget approval to Chief.

Dr. Keith Jemison has an Ed.D. in Interdisciplinary Leadership-Public Safety Concentration from Governors State University, a Master of Arts in Political and Justice Studies from Governors State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia College. Dr. Jemison also has a certification from the Xtreme Measures Training Group in Basic Police Sniper Course.

Their manager is Ruth J. Simmons, President. They are on a team with Tony Moore - CIO, Cynthia Carter-Horn - SVP for Business Affairs & CFO, and Magesh Rajan - VP of Research, Innovation & Sponsored Programs.
