Neil Leatherbury

SVP, Head of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls at Precision BioSciences

Neil Leatherbury has a diverse work experience in the field of pharmaceutical development and engineering. Neil is currently working at Precision BioSciences, Inc. as the SVP of CMC since February 2023. Previously, they held roles as the VP of CMC from September 2021 to February 2023 and as the Interim VP of CMC from May 2021 to September 2021. Before joining Precision BioSciences, they worked at Mirna Therapeutics as the Director of Pharmaceutical Development from October 2010 to November 2016, where they were responsible for CMC operations and led formulation and analytical efforts for lipid nanoparticle-based microRNA therapies. Prior to that, Neil worked at Azaya Therapeutics as a Senior Product Development Engineer from September 2007 to October 2010, where they managed R&D and analytical teams and developed lipid-based nanoparticles for cancer therapy. Neil also has experience at Smith & Nephew (Osteobiologics, Inc.) as a Senior Engineer from November 1994 to September 2007, specializing in polymer chemistry and analysis for tissue engineering applications. Neil started their career at Procter & Gamble as a Product Development Engineer from June 1992 to November 1994, where they led the formulation of new lipstick products and contributed to consumer research and patent inventions. Overall, Neil has extensive expertise in pharmaceutical development, CMC operations, lipid nanoparticles, polymer chemistry, and formulation.

Neil Leatherbury has a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice University, which they obtained between 1987 and 1992. Following this, they pursued further studies and completed a master's degree in Management of Technology at The University of Texas at San Antonio from 2005 to 2007.
