Sara Christensen

Director, Instructional Design at Prevention First

Sara Christensen has a diverse work experience in the field of instructional design and prevention services. Sara started their career as a Prevention Coordinator at PEER Services in 1999, where they worked until 2006. During this time, they focused on coordinating prevention services.

In 2006, Sara joined Prevention First as a Manager of Training, responsible for overseeing the implementation of training programs for youth substance abuse prevention grantees. Sara also provided organizational leadership as a member of the management team. In 2009, they moved to Inner City Teaching Corps as a student in their teacher training program called UNITE. This program offered mid-career professionals the opportunity to become teachers in inner-city Chicago classrooms. Sara completed their student teaching, received ongoing training as a full-time classroom teacher, attended professional development seminars, and developed a Teaching Portfolio during their one-year tenure.

After completing the UNITE program, Sara returned to Prevention First in 2011, this time as a Manager of Instructional Design. In this role, they identified, managed, and developed instructional design programs and courses to achieve agency goals and objectives.

Most recently, in July 2022, Sara was promoted to the position of Director of Instructional Design at Prevention First Inc. The details of this role are not provided, but it can be assumed that they continued to utilize their expertise in designing instructional programs and courses.

Overall, Sara has a strong background in developing and facilitating training programs, coordinating prevention services, and has transitioned into instructional design. Sara has demonstrated a dedication to preventing teen drug use and helping to improve educational opportunities for students in inner-city Chicago classrooms.

Sara Christensen received their Bachelor of Science degree in Family & Social Services, Business, and Sociology from Northern Illinois University. Sara attended the university from 1992 to 1997. In addition to their bachelor's degree, Sara Christensen also obtained a certification as a Master Instructional Designer from the Association for Talent Development (ATD) in September 2022.
