Kelly McKinnon

Director, Scientific Affairs at PRIME Education

Kelly McKinnon has a diverse work experience in various scientific and communication roles. Kelly is currently the Director of Scientific Affairs at PRIME Education. Prior to this, they worked as the Associate Director of Scientific Affairs at the same company. Before joining PRIME Education, Kelly worked as a Science Writer at Tempus, Inc. Here, they collaborated with a multidisciplinary team and led the writing of scientific manuscripts for publication. Kelly also drafted and reviewed conference materials. Kelly also has experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, where they developed techniques for cryopreserving patient reproductive tissue. Kelly worked as a Scientific Communications Specialist at the Women's Health Research Institute, where they developed strategic communication materials and delivered lectures. In addition, they served as the Director of Press Relations and Scientific Outreach at the Woodruff Lab at Northwestern University, where they developed press releases and web content. Kelly also worked as a Graduate Research Fellow at Northwestern University, studying the influence of hormones on cervical biology. Kelly started their career as a Graphics Manager at Scholastic Advertising Inc and also worked as a Sales Associate. Kelly was an HHMI Undergraduate Research Fellow at Emory University School of Medicine.

Kelly McKinnon attended Georgia Gwinnett College where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology with a specialization in Biochemistry. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued higher education at Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine. Kelly completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Life Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine. During their time at Northwestern University, they also attended The Graduate School where they focused on Science Writing and Communication. In 2018, Kelly McKinnon obtained a certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Compliance from the Mathews Center for Cellular Therapy at Northwestern Medicine.
