James Jiron has over 20 years of work experience in the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department and the Prince George's County Fire Department. James began their career in 1999 as an Operational Safety Officer and Captain, and later served as an Acting Battalion Chief starting in 2018.
James Jiron has a strong education history with a focus on public safety leadership and administration. James obtained a Master of Public Safety Leadership and Administration from Arizona State University between 2016 and 2018. Prior to that, they completed the Managing Officer Program in leadership and administration at the National Fire Academy in 2015 and 2016.
In terms of undergraduate education, Jiron earned a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science from the University of Maryland Global Campus. James attended the university from 2004 to 2015. Before pursuing a bachelor's degree, they obtained an Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Technology/Technician (EMT Paramedic) from Prince George's Community College between 2000 and 2002.
Jiron's education journey began with their completion of a college/university preparatory and advanced high school/secondary diploma program at High Point High School from 1991 to 1995.
In addition to their formal education, Jiron also holds a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate obtained from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education in May 2021.
