Radu Sion

CEO, Founder at Private Machines Inc.

Radu Sion has extensive work experience in various roles and companies. In 1994, they started as the Executive Director of SunSite Romania, a network of Internet servers. From 1995 to 1999, they were the CEO of Smart Software, where they developed the first Java networked software-defined message passing platform. In 2000, they interned as a Software Engineer at IBM's WebSphere. In 2001, they worked as a Researcher at NEC Corporation of America. From 2003 to 2005, they worked at IBM as a Researcher in the Grid Computing Group, where they led a team and designed a grid-enabled database. Radu joined Purdue University in 1999 as a Graduate Research Assistant until 2004. In 2012, they became the Director of Cloud Computing Research at The Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) until 2018. In 2005, they became a Tenured Associate Professor at Stony Brook University, where they focused on Cyber Security, Clouds, and Green Computing. In 2014, they became the Director of the National Security Institute at Stony Brook University, where they created the institute and secured over $8 million in research funding in the first year. Finally, in 2013, they started their own company, Private Machines Inc., where they serve as CEO and Founder. Radu founded another company, Virtalica, in 2020, where they hold the positions of CEO and Founder.

Radu Sion obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science from Purdue University, where they studied from 1999 to 2004.
