René Dias Torcato has extensive experience in the motorsport industry, with a focus on engineering and driving roles. René currently serves as the Chief Rally Engineer at Prodrive since 2022. From 2019 to 2022, they worked at NIO as an R&D / Driver in the Loop Simulator for Formula E. Prior to that, they were a Lead R&D Engineer at Renault Sport F1 from 2016 to 2018. René also served as the Director of GRAVA Ltd - Motorsport Excitement and Innovation from 2015 to 2018. As a rally driver, they worked under their own name, René Torcato, from 2012 to 2018. Additionally, they held various roles at Lotus F1 Team from 2011 to 2016, including Lead R&D Engineer 7 Post Rig and Business Analyst. From 2010 to 2011, they were the Race Engineering Project Manager at Marussia F1 Team. René began their career as the Lead Vehicle Dynamics Engineer at Raceworks Inc from 2007 to 2009. René also worked as a Test Engineer at APPLUS IDIADA in 2006 and as a Race Engineer and Test Driver at Snake Engineering from 2004 to 2006, participating in the Portuguese National Rally Championship in Group A.
René Dias Torcato obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad Simón Bolívar. This educational qualification was completed between an unspecified start year and the year 2004.
