Profile’s mission is to produce a season of first-class productions and community engagement activities centered around a single writer whose vision broadens our perspective on our world and deepens our collective compassion.

Each year we use a master artist’s unique vision as a lens to examine our shared world. Our four signature programs are our main stage season of large-scale professional productions; our innovative In Dialogue programs of lectures and concert stagings; our Community Profile program, which uses the practice of writing to create networks of support and resilience in a dedicated affinity space for a community important to the featured writer; and our Playwright’s Residency, which embeds the featured writer in our theatre, providing multiple opportunities for engagement with our wider Portland community, patrons, and artists.

The Artistic Direction Team at Profile Theatre is responsible for curating and guiding the artistic vision and thematic focus of the company's annual season. This includes selecting the featured writer, overseeing the production of main stage plays, and ensuring that all programs such as In Dialogue, Community Profile, and the Playwright’s Residency align with the company's mission to foster understanding and compassion through the arts.
