Rosario Contarino has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and responsibilities. Rosario started their career as a Linux Kernel Software Developer Intern at STMicroelectronics, where they focused on improving the kernel modules loading system. During this time, they also presented their innovative solution at the CELF Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2010.
Continuing their career, they joined the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen for an academic internship. There, they contributed to the creation of an Activity Recognition System as part of the "GreenerBuildings" project. Rosario developed TinyOS software for Wireless Sensor Networks and co-authored a research paper.
Rosario then worked as a Software Engineer at C3DNA and later joined Imagination Technologies as a Graduate Software Engineer. At Imagination Technologies, they were involved in the development and support of the PowerVR GPU Linux Driver, focusing on analyzing and improving the driver locks system, enhancing the user-space interface for GPU hardware performance analysis, and working in a Scrum framework.
After that, they joined Bitwise Group as a Software Engineer and consultant for a Dutch payment provider. Rosario developed payment applications for Ingenico Telium 2 ARM terminals and used Model-Driven development with the Verum Dezyne platform.
Currently, Rosario is working at Profitap as the VP of Engineering. Here, they lead an international team of software engineers, manages multiple projects using Agile Kanban methodology and DevOps principles, and is responsible for the company's data flow management portfolio. Additionally, they are involved in designing software architecture for Network Embedded Systems, supporting customers and sales representatives, and maintaining internal software and project management infrastructure. Rosario also contributes to the growth of the team by directing software engineer interviews and mentoring interns and junior developers.
Rosario Contarino began their education at Liceo Scientifico Leonardo in Giarre (CT), where they obtained a Maturità Scientifica degree in Corso Sperimentale Brocca Scientifico from 2001 to 2006. They then attended Università di Catania from 2006 to 2010, earning a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Engineering. From 2010 to 2013, Rosario pursued a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Computer Engineering at Università di Catania. During their studies, they also completed an Erasmus Semester at the University of Exeter in 2012, focusing on Engineering. In 2013, they undertook an academic internship in Distributed Systems at the University of Groningen. Additionally, Rosario obtained several certifications, including LFCE: Linux Foundation Certified Engineer in November 2017, Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator in November 2016, BA-101: Introduction to Data plane development with Tofino and Capilano SDE in February 2018, and Professional Scrum Product Owner™ I (PSPO I) in April 2022.
