Project Recover
Derek Abbey, Ph.D., serves as the President and CEO of Project Recover, leading a dedicated team focused on locating and identifying American POWs and MIAs from World War II and other conflicts. With a rich background in military and veterans programs, Derek has held various leadership roles, including Board Member at Positive Mindset Foundation and Director of the Military and Veterans Program at San Diego State University. Derek demonstrated a commitment to veteran affairs as the Senior Director for the Travis Manion Foundation and as the Veteran Student Services Coordinator at the University of San Diego. Derek's educational achievements include a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from the University of San Diego, an MA in Higher Education Leadership from the same institution, and a BA and BS in History from Oregon State University. Prior to these endeavors, Derek served 23 years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Project Recover
Project Recover’s vision is: (i) to repatriate every American service member who has not come home through research, searches, recoveries and other methodologies; (ii) to provide information and closure to the families of service members; (iii) to provide a platform to educate the public on the importance of service to one’s country; and (iv) to provide unique educational opportunities in the areas of science, technology, history, leadership, public service and diplomacy to a committed student audience, in conjunction with Project Recover’s mission, in order to provide a real world application to students and further educate the public.
