Scott Althaus

Scott Althaus is the Director of the Cline Center for Advanced Social Research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where responsibilities include equipping researchers with advanced computational techniques to tackle societal challenges and training students in data science for global benefit. Althaus also serves as a Professor with joint appointments in the Department of Political Science and the Department of Communication, focusing on the intersection of communication systems and political accountability. Additionally, Althaus holds the position of Associate Director of the Cline Center for Democracy and has military experience as a Military Policeman in the US Army. Educationally, Althaus earned an MA and PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley.

Project Recover’s vision is: (i) to repatriate every American service member who has not come home through research, searches, recoveries and other methodologies; (ii) to provide information and closure to the families of service members; (iii) to provide a platform to educate the public on the importance of service to one’s country; and (iv) to provide unique educational opportunities in the areas of science, technology, history, leadership, public service and diplomacy to a committed student audience, in conjunction with Project Recover’s mission, in order to provide a real world application to students and further educate the public.
