Rob van Haaren

Rob van Haaren has a diverse work experience with a focus on renewable energy and machine learning technology. Rob is currently working as an AI Consultant at AI Business Consulting, where they provide consultation to renewable energy and storage developers on applying ML/AI in their business processes. Rob has also worked on electricity market trading, creating business plans and running trading backtests.

In 2022, Rob joined a stealth company where they are involved in building something new, and in 2019, they founded Prophit.ai, a company that develops machine learning technology for sales and tax decision making.

Prior to that, from 2011 to 2019, Rob worked at First Solar as a PV + Storage (PVS) Lead Analyst and Technical Analyst in Power Systems Development. In these roles, they developed product/service offerings, presented novel concepts to utilities, and evaluated the potential synergies and revenue streams from co-locating PV and batteries. Rob also gained technical knowledge of battery performance and degradation.

Rob has entrepreneurial experience as well. Rob co-founded and served as CEO of Divvy Power LLC, a company focused on enabling communities to crowdfund for sustainable solutions. Rob also founded CoverrMe.com, a visual crowdfunding platform for personal fundraising campaigns.

Before their entrepreneurial ventures, Rob worked as a Research Associate at Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Rob conducted research on utility-scale photovoltaic plant variability studies, energy storage optimization, and waste-to-energy technologies.

Rob van Haaren has a strong educational background in engineering and innovation sciences. Rob earned their Bachelor's Degree in Innovation Sciences from Eindhoven University of Technology from 2005 to 2008. Following this, they pursued a Master's Degree in Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia Engineering, where they studied from 2008 to 2010. Rob continued their academic journey at Columbia University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Engineering in the years 2009 to 2013.
