Maarten Holkers

Maarten Holkers, Ph.D., currently serves as a Biosafety Officer at Johnson & Johnson since March 2025. In addition, Maarten has been with ProQR Therapeutics since April 2014, holding the position of Scientific Lead for Target Identification & Validation, which involves investigating new targets suitable for ProQR's proprietary Axiomer technology. Previous roles at ProQR include Associate Director of Innovation and Sr. Scientist, specializing in mechanisms of action and innovation. Earlier in their career, Maarten was a Ph.D. student at LUMC from July 2005 to January 2016, focusing on genome editing principles and designer nucleases. Maarten began academic training with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Biochemistry from Saxion University of Applied Sciences, completed in 2005.
