Sam Banister has a strong background in scientific research and advisory roles. They started their career as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney in 2011. They then moved on to work as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stanford University School of Medicine from 2014 to 2016, followed by a position as a Research Scientist at Stanford University in 2017.
In 2018, Sam took on the role of Team Leader in Medicinal Chemistry at the Brain and Mind Centre, where they worked until 2022. During this time, they also served as a Scientific Advisor at Tranquis Therapeutics, Inc. from 2018 to the present, and as a Medical Advisory Board Member at Tetra Health from 2018 to 2019.
In 2020, Sam joined Nalu Bio as a Scientific Advisor and later became a Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Psylo in 2021. They also became a Scientific Advisor at Pangea Botanica in 2022. Additionally, they took on the role of a First Believer at Startmate in the same year.
Sam Banister's education history begins in 2002 when they enrolled at the University of Sydney. They completed their Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Medicinal Chemistry in 2005. Subsequently, in 2006, Banister continued their studies at the University of Sydney and obtained a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry in 2011. Afterward, they pursued a Postdoc at Stanford University in Chemistry from 2014 to 2017. Additionally, Banister has acquired several certifications, including a Skydiving License from the U.S. Parachute Association (USPA) in April 2015, a Sporting License from the Australian Parachute Federation Ltd in August 2013, an Advanced Open Water Diver certification from PADI in March 2013, and an Accelerated Free Fall Instructor (AFF-I) certification from the U.S. Parachute Association (USPA) in May 2017.
